Our home base, Samasati Nature Retreat, has been called " A Jungle Gem" by the American Way magazine. The resort is set into the Samasati Biological Reserve, a private protected area rich with birds and all kind of wildlife. Accommodation will consist of comfortable, exotic bungalows set in the middle of the rain forest, with a breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea. We will have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor jacuzzi, relaxing massages, yoga classes and a gourmet healthy cuisine.

DAY 1 | Arrival
Arrive in San Jose, stay overnight at the charming Hotel El Sesteo , with beautiful gardens.


DAY 2 | Wild life and turtle watch
We set out through the Braulio Carillo National Park towards the Caribbean coast. We reach the pier of Matinas, where a boat with a bi- lingual guide will be waiting to take us into the winding canals towards Tortugero National Park. Abundant wildlife and the silence of a place beyond time. We'll spend the night at the Paquira Lodge, and we'll have the chance to watch the turtle nesting under the moonlight ( during turtle nesting season, April through October) .


DAY 3 | Biological reserve and pampering
Some more canal and birds sightseeing at Tortugero National Park, and back to the pier, where a van will take you to Samasati Nature Retreat, In the afternoon, we'll have a tour of the Samasati Biological Reserve and the opportunity to finally relax soaking in the large Jacuzzi looking at the sunset.


DAY 4 | Sea kayaking and jungle
Excursion to Punta Uva located in the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife refuge. Outside Magazine calls it " one the best seven beaches of the world". With the help of a trained guide, we will kayak in the ocean with a sea kayak sliding towards the Punta Uva River, that unwinds into the jungle into a paradise of birds, wild animals and tropical plants After the kayaking, the options are: exploring the Punta Uva promontory, snorkeling and sunbathing at the beach either way, this is a day full of adventure and wonders! Back to Samasati, we have the choice to hang into our private hammock, have a massage or try out a yoga class or...have it all!


DAY 5 | Plants and fruits you didn�t know existed�
Visit to the Black Beach Botanical Garden. You will be able to observe an incredible quantity of flowers,ornamental and medicinal plants, rare plants, bizarre plants, plants for cosmetic use and plants that we use every day in the kitchen, like black pepper and vanilla. And, of course, all kind of tropical fruit trees, from the most commonly known to the very unknown. You actually will have the opportunity to taste fruits you probably never knew existed and learn about " plant's habits" that will surprise you! Then we will visit an iguana farm. We enjoy tasty Caribbean cuisine at a beach side restaurant.


DAY 6 | Canopy tour
The canopy tour is a must for the jungle lovers! It will give a real taste of the tropical rain forest. Eight aerial platforms and 1200 meters of cable nestled deep into the primary jungle. Our professional guide will take you from one platform to the other explaining about the vegetation, the animals and how the local indigenous use some of the herbs you will see....An incredible opportunity to " dive" into the jungle and enjoy it from up above .


DAY 7 | A boating adventure
Last day, an unforgettable adventure. Early raise, to travel to the fishermen village of Manzanillo ( 16 miles south of Samasati) where a boat will take us to watch the Tucuxi , Atlantic Spotted and Bottlenose dolphins which abound in these waters. The scenic view of Monkey Point and of the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge coastal area is beautiful.


DAY 8 | Back to San Jose
A relaxing morning and a light breakfast, before heading back to San Jose.
