DAY 1 | ARRIVAL IN TANZANIA
On your arrival at the airport in Arusha, your driver and guide will transport you to your initial destination, the Il Boru Lodge. This small, personal, very comfortable lodge caters to visitors such as you, who care about supporting local community projects, such as farm irrigation schemes, education and medical facilities. A great way to introduce you to the country. [B,D]
DAY 2 | BUSH PLANE FLIGHT TO THE SERENGETI
Now you're ready for the main event: After an early morning breakfast, board the bush plane for a flight to Serengeti National Park, one of the world’s largest remaining natural habitats and an amazing sight. You’ll get your first glimpse of this rich ecosystem en route to your private tented camp. Settle into camp over lunch before a full afternoon game drive over the vast plains. You’ll go in search of wildebeest, lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, hyena, antelope, eagles, sunbirds, lizards. Then back to camp for your three-course meal: soups, stews, pasta, fresh fruits and vegetables—they even get fancy with crepes on occasion. (Lunches are generally sandwiches and salads, breakfasts full English variety, along with cereals and toast. Special requests, vegetarian, vegan, or other diets, will be honored with advanced notice.) Overnight at the camp. [B,L,D]

DAY 5 | TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Drive to the Tarangire National Park through the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands. This is the land of the tree-climbing lions, more lush and green than the grassy plains. The presence of permanent water, the river and watering holes, attracts legions of creatures here, including elephants, buffalo, and other star attractions of the region. Stop for lunch at Gibb’s Farm, a delightful coffee plantation estate. Finish off the day at the Tarangire Treetops Lodge, your “home” for the next two days. Sunset has never been so dramatic, spied over the craggy kopjes and stark branches of the park’s famous baobabs. These majestic trees are wonderfully incorporated, with thatch and canvas, into the natural construction of this unique lodge. Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Treetops Lodge. [B,L,D]
DAY 6 | TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK/TREETOPS LODGE & LOCAL VILLAGES
Spend the day on game drives; your lodge is right on the perimeter of the park, and serves as the perfect base. Or walk the environs to learn of the local villages--Lokisale, Makuyuni, and Mswakini—and their ongoing partnerships with the Lodge. Proceeds from your stay provide direct revenue to the villages for development of schools, water holes and medical dispensaries. In exchange, the local villages avoid farming, land clearing and hunting to ensure wildlife habitat protection. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge. [B,L,D]
DAY 7 | TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Here’s another full day to explore Tarangire National Park. Your guide will target the game drives to find what you may have missed on your previous pass. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge. [B,L,D]
DAY 8 | USAMBARA MOUNTAINS/MULLERS LODGE
After an early breakfast, drive to the Western Usambara Mountains, stopping along the way for a picnic lunch. There will be plenty of time along the way for you guide to fill you in on local village traditions and other points of interest, including the birds and wildlife that simply refuse to stay in the parks! You’ll arrive by dinner time at Mullers Lodge, a community-owned domicile. Dinner and overnight at Mullers Lodge. [B,L,D]
DAY 9 | USAMBARA MOUNTAINS/MULLERS LODGE
Hike the forest mountain trails today; rich with wildlife, these are among the few rare areas of lowland forests left in Africa. Experts tell us that nearly half of its butterflies and plants are found nowhere else on earth; rare birds appear as well, in addition to the elephant, buffalo, leopard, and various duikers. Dinner and overnight at Mullers Lodge. [B,L,D]
DAY 10 | LUSHOTO VILLAGE
The wildlife may be fine, but it's the people that make a country unique. Today will be spent at the nearby Lushoto village, visiting with the locals--the Shambaa, the Wasambaa. Experience firsthand their culture: food, traditions, and handicrafts. Dinner and overnight back at the Lodge. [B,L,D]
DAY 11 | DEPART TANZANIA
