Tour: Fireworks In Valencia

[Back to Eco Tours]

Come enjoy the Las Fallas de Valencia, a fiery celebration of spring's arrival and a countdown to the feast of San Jose. Throughout the year, teams of artists and craftsmen create building-size statues of paper mache that poke fun at the lighter aspects of life. On the last night of the festival, these fallas are packed full of firecrackers and joyfully set ablaze in an all-out spectacle of fire and fireworks. But while these statues provide the vidual entertainment for Las Fallas, the mascleta provides the soundtrack. La Macleta is a pyrotechnical din of unimaginable proportion, and consists of thousands upon thousands of exploding firecrackers. Reports the 1999 Fallas Guide: "In a matter of just ten minutes of explosions, up to one hundred kilos of gunpowder is let off. A perfectly synchronized, thythmic symphony of noice, the display finishes with a 20 second grand finale."
