The management is knowledgeable about issues and helping to educate others. They are working to reach their ideals but because of monetary or other constraints may not quite be there yet.
3 leaves- This lodge is responsible and considers environmental issues/community issues in their decisions and operations. They make choices based on environmental and social responsibility, but they also consider their cost and may forgo the optimal method when the cost in either time or money seems too great.
2 leaves- This lodge is somewhat low-impact - but not necessarily because they are considering these issues - more because it is convenient for them. They consider issues when convenient and easily implementable - or because they make sense. They do not take issues into account when their execution would be inconvenient.
1 leaf- This lodge is not making optimal use of natural resources and their ability to have a positive impact on people/environment. They are prioritizing convenience and cost over environmental and social responsibility. They rarely, if ever, consider the environment or local community in their decisions at all.
This system does NOT rate the lodge quality in accordance to the traditional 1-5 star system.
Each lodge listed with Manaca has been thoroughly checked out by a staff member and while they will vary in rusticity, they are all quite clean and pleasingly comfortable.
The Manaca Eco Rating is a subjective rating system based on how much the lodge is doing to be environmentally low impact and socially responsible. Each individual category will be rated based on the below system. The lodge will then be given an overall score based on the average of all the below categories.
The scale has been devised based on a rating of 1 leaf being the conventional all-inclusive resorts that usually have a devastatingly negative impact on the local environment and community.
